Why is Water so Important to your Wellness? Water is so important to the wellness of your body. Our bodies are made of an average of 60 percent of your body weight. Every system in your body depends on water. Water flushes out toxins from your vital organs, it carries nourishment to your cells and provides a moisture for you ear nose and throat tissues. Over 70% of the earth’s surface is water. Although, most of it (more than 96%) is salt water. Only 2% of it is fresh water that we can drink. “You are not just what you eat; you are what you drink” Dr. F. Your blood which spreads nutrients throughout the body is 82% water. Your lungs which provide oxygen are 90% water. Muscles which are 75% water enable us to move around. Even you bones are made up of 25% water. Our health and wellness is truly dependant on the quality and quantity of the water we drink. Drink up!! Water is very important to the workings of the body. It cannot work without it. Did you know that studies show that one can survive for approximately 3 weeks without food but only 3-4 days without water. Water is critical to our survival and pure clear water is the best. Below are some of the ways that water serves the body and our overall wellness. • Water lubricates the body. • Water forms the base for saliva. • Water forms the fluid that surround the joints. • Water produces perspiration to help regulate body temperature (perspiration). • Water helps to maintain healthy bowels. • Water regulates metabolism.
Did you know that drinking eight glasses of water a day can decrease the risk of colon cancer by 45%, bladder cancer by 50%, and potentially reduce the risk of breast cancer.Water effects many, many other dis-eases in the body as well. How much water should you drink? Some guidelines say that 8- 8 ounce glasses of water a day are plenty. We however recommend that you drink half an ounce per pound of body weight. So if you weigh 160 lbs you would drink 80 ounces of water per day or 10 8 oz glasses. How to get more water into your diet? • Buy a BA free Nalgene bottle and fill your bottle throughout the day. Sip on it all day and you will be surprised how this increases your hydration level. • Drink a glass of water with each meal and one between each meal. • Drink before and after exercise. • Drink sparkling water instead of alcohol at social gatherings. So remember, cool, clear water at regular intervals throughout your day will go a long way toward increasing your level of wellness. So drink up and be revitalized!!
